Tartar: Another Reason Why Swollen Gums Takes Place

Plaque is the colorless, sticky film that forms in the teeth. When accumulated excessively it can hardened and form into tartar. Plaque and tartar produces acids and toxins that irritates the gums and causing it to be inflamed, resulting to swollen gums. Harmful bacteria grow easily and faster in the presence of plaque. With superior oral care, plaque can be removed. Thorough regular brushing and flossing are the key in preventing plaque build up, swishing salt and warm water solution is also helpful. However, brushing and flossing may not be enough in removing tartar and it takes a dental professional to remove it. Swollen gums and gum disease can gradually develop when tartar is not removed, and may even cause tooth loss in the future if left untreated.
